Before the match, the buzz about Carlsen missing chances to win in two straight games filled the Fulton market on the lower East Side of Manhattan. Game 5 saw an incredible turn of events with Carlsen making the first major mistake of the match. Karjakin jumped on it but missed the pivotal move that would allow him to seize an advantage. But, he was happy to draw as he will receive the White pieces in Game 6 & 7. This means that Carlsen has to prepare for two straight games where he may need to defend for a very long time.
Carlsen is the World Champion but can he stand up to the pressure? Today's game will be pivotal in seeing if Karjakin's chances of winning have improved. Yesterday, GM Lev Alburt said, "With every draw Karjakin's chances improve a small percentage." If he is right then there is a good chance he could win one game or draw out the classical games.
